Virgin is Red Hot When Celebrating its Silver Year
January 9, 2009 Advertising, General Marketing No CommentsI love Richard Branson - I think that he is a person to look up to. He isn’t afraid to try anything because if he fails, then he learns lessons, dusts himself off and goes again.
It’s a strength to be admired.
What is also meant to be admired is the new virgin ad celebrating its 25th year anniversary. It’s by no means silver, its red hot! I’m loving it. Since my days in the travel industry, I’ve loved the virgin brand…and its customer service.
I have yet to read a bad review in terms of its customer care and service. It has been a huge differentiator for Virgin over the years.
Check out the advert here if you haven’t seen in.
Virgin 25th Anniversary Advert
It’s a throw back to the 80s when it launched. I’m sure that there are people on the blogosphere talking about errors or that but I’ve talking it on face value. It’s certainly brings back memories - Madonna on Top of the Pops, Wimpy, huge mobile phones (I didn’t even know that they existed back then), the Rubix cube and how my sister and I tried to peel the colours off.
It is the first of a series of adverts and special promotions that will air before the birthday in June. The campaign cost a whopping (or meagre depending on your point of view) £6million.
The advert stands out for a number of reasons
Colour
Even though there is a lot of colour within the video the red of the uniforms and shiny patents shoes makes a bold statement.
Smiles
The ladies are lovely obviously but there are smiles all the time, and a little wave to the little girl, all signify happiness, pleasantness and something just a bit different.
Nostlagia
it’s engaing to watch it to count how many throw-backs to the 80s there are. They should launch a competition!
Appartently over 65 million passengers have chosen to travel with Virgin Atlantic since its launch in 1984. I’m definitely going to be one in the next 25 years!
